Downtown Seattle

So many things that are great about Seattle are located right downtown, which is why so many people love to call this area home. Downtown communities such as Pioneer Square and Belltown manage to capture the rich history of Seattle while displaying the many advantages that have helped Seattle become a modern, world-class city. The cultural attractions downtown are too numerous to mention and of course, the dining, shopping and nightlife is among the best in the city. With so much, so close and Seattle’s great public transportation system, you’ll love how easy it is to get around.

Among the most well-known Seattle attractions is Pike Place Market, the oldest continually operating farmers market in the country. The market is famous for vendors who throw fish to the delight of locals and tourists alike. The Space Needle is the most easily recognizable building in Seattle’s beautiful skyline and is the anchor of the Seattle Center. Seattle Center is a 74-acre civic complex that serves as the region's center for cultural, educational and recreational entertainment. The Seattle Center is home to museums, theaters, arts centers and galleries, tourist attractions, an amphitheater and an amusement park. The Experience Music Project, which opened in 2000, is an interactive rock and roll museum with an innovative design by Frank Gehry. Seattle is rich in theater arts with 80 companies, 13 of which are professional. The city also annually hosts the Seattle International Film Festival and is often displayed prominently in major Hollywood productions and TV shows.

If you like professional spectator sports, the Mariners, Supersonics and Seahawks all play in new homes and have had some great success over the last decade. For fans of horse racing, Emerald Downs is just a short drive from the city. Seattle is also known as the world's boating capital with mile after mile of shoreline. Seattle has more boat owners per capita than anywhere else in the nation. Whether you like to yacht, motor, sail or kayak, you are sure to find what you are looking for. Not to mention the fact that three of the country's most spectacular national parks, Mt. Rainier National Park, North Cascades National Park and Olympic National Park, plus Mt. St. Helens National Monument are all within two hours driving distance of the city. Hiking, skiing, year-round boating, swimming and fishing are also less than an hour away.

The Seattle Public School System is considered one of the best in the country for cities of its size. The educational opportunities for four-year schools and graduate programs include Antioch University Seattle, Seattle Pacific University, Seattle University and the University of Washington. This strong educational foundation has helped to produce an educated and dynamic workforce. Companies such as Microsoft, Boeing, Starbucks, Amazon.com, Nordstrom’s, Eddie Bauer and others have grown to national and international prominence by taking advantage of the creativity and vision of the residents of Seattle and the surrounding area.
